Trip to Las Vegas

Thursday Scott and I drove to Las Vegas with my parents, Nate & Heidi and Leslie. We made it as far as Mesquite. We had a good time visiting and went to the movies and watched "The Bucket List" (can't remember if that is the exact title) - it was good. Friday morning we got up early to head to Vegas for the dreaded Coroner's Inquest. It went better than expected. We had been dreading it for so long. They had 3 witnesses speak - a medical examiner (from the coroners office), an eye witness and the police officer. It was difficult to hear what happened but was something that had to happen. Ryan's toxicology came back CLEAN - which was what the detectives and coroners were sure would not because of the way he reacted when tasered. Way to go Ryan!!! The medical examiner said that he was tasered at least 6 times and the police officer said 5 times... we did not ever get an exact number from the taser gun. They said that Ryan did not speak at all during the altercation and appeared to be dazed the entire time and tried to get away.

After we left the inquest we went to lunch and then we went to one of Ryan's favorite spots in Vegas. Ryan took me there when we visited him and my mom said he'd call her a lot while he was there. It is by a McDonalds (he'd get his favorite m&m McFlurry with extra m&m's on top and 2 apple pies) and he'd watch the airplanes fly over head. It is quite amazing to watch because they are so close. I tried to get a good picture but was not successful... much harder to do than I thought. It was very therapeutic for me to be there - I laid on the grass and shed a few tears.

After, we headed back to SLC so we could watch Greg's kids - see next post. It was a long day but one I am so glad to have over. I love Ryan and am so proud how he acted during this most scary and traumatic event ever!

Peace, xoxox

  2. I am so proud of Ryan for enduring to the end!!! They said he was combative, yet, he never threw a punch, kicked, or anything agressive. He was just trying to protect himself. As you said, he never even said a word. Plus we knew his toxicology would be clean. It is just proof of what we already knew, that he had a seizure, wasn't aware of what happened after, and felt no pain. I love him so much and miss him so much. So proud of his example to us. xoxo peace

  3. So glad you found out what you really already knew--that he was living as he should. Isn't the saying "A life well lived is the best revenge?" Well, he showed them. He was clean and honorable to the end. Love you much my dear sister-friend.
